]]>Warwick District Council elections occur every 4 years, but in alternating years (a bit like the Football World Cup and Euros!): 2015, 2019, 2023, 2027.
The individual local ward areas for the Warwickshire County elections and the Warwick District elections are similar, but not the same. They also have different names.
For Warwickshire County Council elections the area is called Warwick South. It is the slightly bigger of the 2 areas.
For Warwick District Council elections the area is called Myton and Heathcote. It lies entirely within Warwick south and is approximately 80% of the same households.
The Green Party won Myton and Heathcote in 2023. The leading Green, Kathleen Gorman got 1460 votes. The leading Conservative got 867 votes, a gap of 593 votes. This is the most recent local Council election and therefore the best indication of who will win this time. Therefore this is the graph we have used on literature and calling cards. It encompasses approximately 80% of the same housesholds.

The Green Party came second in Warwick South in 2021, losing by only 396 votes. You can see this result here :https://apps.warwickshire.gov.uk/ElectionResults/elections/2021

]]>The post Winner of the Janet Alty Award for Tenacious Campaigning appeared first on Warwick District Green Party.
]]>The Janet Alty Award for Tenacious Campaigning is an annual honour presented to a member of the Warwick District Green Party who has shown outstanding determination in driving positive change. This award is named in loving memory of the late Janet Alty, whose dedication and spirit continues to inspire us all.
Many of us knew Janet from her work on the town council, and her work with local residents, where she knew people and where she worked & campaigned to make lives better here in Leamington. Janet knew the importance of the personal and would fight hard for a bus route, for improvements to housing, for safety in crossing the road, for a green recreational space.
But Janet also campaigned nationally, and she helped shape Green Party policies. Her children remember her spending hours on the phone debating policy and this is one of the reasons we selected Juliet Nickels for the award.
Juliet Nickels was involved in drafting an evidence-based Covid-19 policy for the Green Party, and setting up the Covid-19 Campaign Working Group, and in producing campaign resources. She helped position the Green Party as a potential leader in pandemic response, increasing its credibility. Juliet persisted with her work, despite opposition. There is a breadth & depth of involvement from both experts & grassroot members, which underscores Juliet’s ability to inspire and mobilise people.
It was hard to make a decision about the winner – we have a lot of fantastic volunteers who work away quietly in the background and who deserve recognition.
