At the full council meeting on Wed Feb 23, Warwick District Council approved their budget for the coming year.
Only the Green Party objected to a large increase in car parking charges at the same time as giving away free parking passes to companies.
The budget report forecast £250k annual extra income with the higher charges and £128,250 lost income over 5 years from giving free parking to businesses around Spencer’s Yard.
Ian Davison, Green Party, commented: “I object strongly to giving away so much money to encourage new businesses to drive when we’re trying to reduce congestion and parking charges for the rest of us in south Leamington have more than doubled from 50p to £1.30 for one hour.”
Price increases are for Bath Place, Court St, Packington Place. See page 46 of document
