The new Myton School sixth form block due to open in September 2023 is to be built to a lower standard than other schools according to the County Council.
In a full council meeting on Tuesday the Green Party group pointed out that whilst 2 other schools would be built to the slightly better 2021 building regulations, Myton sixth form would be built to the old less efficient 2013 regulations. Conservative deputy leader Peter Butlin refused to look into upgrading the quality of the building before work began.
South Warwick Green campaigner Dominic Harrison said:
“This is shameful. The Conservative-run Council working with the academy are saying they’re happy to lumber Myton children with a substandard building and higher energy costs for the next generation, for the sake of a small extra investment now. This is a relatively simple change, needn’t delay the build and will save money for the school in the medium and long term. The other schools Warwickshire are getting the improvements – why not Myton?”
